What are the benefits of reducing mowing in areas of so-called landscaped green space? What natural values do lawns gain when they are mowed once, four times, six times or eight times during the year? Does the abandonment of mowing promote the spread of invasive and expansive species? Does reducing mowing increase the risk of tick exposure? What approaches to lawn maintenance do community, NGO, public sector or business representatives have?
We want to provide answers to these and other questions by conducting research as part of the project "To mow or not to mow? A mobile application based on study of impact of mowing frequency on biodiversity and analysis of the needs of the socio-economic environment".
Our activities will include:
(1) a field experiment on research plots designated within the lawns of the Third Campus of the Jagiellonian University;
(2) focus group interviews with representatives of the socio-economic environment;
(3) creation of a publicly available educational app on good practices in green space maintenance.
