The project “Space of Motivation – Co‑Creating Environments and Understanding Blood Donors’ Decisions” focuses on understanding how spatial, social, and psychological factors influence the decision to donate blood. It is motivated by the low visibility and limited accessibility of blood donation events at the 600th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University Campus, despite growing public awareness of their social importance.
The main objective of the project is to develop – in collaboration with users and stakeholders – spatial solutions that support regular blood donation, as well as to identify the motivations and barriers associated with this activity.
The project consists of three main stages:
- Needs assessment through surveys, interviews, and observations conducted during real blood donation events.
- Co-creation workshops where participants will develop proposals for locations, functions, and spatial arrangements.
- A pilot phase involving the adaptation of a selected space and its testing in practice.
A key element of the project is the active involvement of stakeholders, including students, university staff, local residents, volunteers, and public blood service personnel. Collaboration will be carried out through research activities, consultations, and co-creation workshops.
The project will result in a tested space tailored to the needs of blood donors, a catalogue of motivations and barriers influencing donor decisions, and a set of recommendations that may serve as a basis for further research and implementation activities.
The project is carried out in cooperation with the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre in Kraków, the Małopolska Regional Branch of the Polish Red Cross, the Honorary Blood Donors Club of the Polish Red Cross at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management of the Jagiellonian University, the Jagiellonian University Nature Education Centre, and the Independent Students’ Association of the Jagiellonian University.
