This is because generating innovation today requires a minimum critical mass of resources and competencies, as well as an appropriate, dense network of interactions among stakeholders. The research methods used within the Living Lab are user-oriented and include, among others, action research and various types of design approaches (Design Thinking etc.). The synergistic effect here is enhanced by the opportunity to experiment, create and test solution prototypes, and involve different stakeholder groups. The essence of living labs is to conduct research in real-world conditions together with the community affected by the issue being tested.

The flagship project “Campus Living Lab. Useful Research HUB” combines the ideas of a living lab with new trends in the operation of university campuses (including the learning landscape). The subject of the project will be the creation of a campus Living Lab in the space of the 600th Anniversary Renewal Campus of the Jagiellonian University. In it we will implement, among other things, projects aimed at solving social, economic, organizational or environmental problems. Essential to the operation of the Living Lab will be anticipating the future challenges of the modern world.

The goal of the Campus Living Lab project is to implement initiatives of a useful research nature. The Living Lab is an innovative, participatory form of cooperation between the world of science and practice. Innovation labs are testing and experimentation environments that support the co-creation of solutions in the Quadruple Helix Model. This means that society, public authorities, business and science are involved in the collaboration on new solutions.
